Bernard Michael Tostanowski, Sr.

Bernard “Bernie” Michael Tostanowski, Sr., 76 of 428 North Chestnut Street, Mt Carmel passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at Geisinger Shamokin Area Community Hospital, Coal Township of natural causes.

Born in Ashland on September 18, 1942 he was the son of the late Kathryn Dziedzic.

He graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1960 and then from Bloomsburg University with a Bachelor degree in Social Services.

He was ranked a Lance Corporal in the US Marine Corps.

Bernie had a long time career in the operating engineers. He also worked at Northwestern Human Services.

He was a member of Our Lady’s Church Mt. Carmel and held a 2nd degree black belt.

Preceding him in death were the mother of his children, Catherine G. Vaughan and his grandson Sean Maschal.

He is survived by his children, Catherine Langley, Mike Tostanowski, Claudine Gratti her husband Anthony and Michelle Marquardt; eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

A religious service will be held on Saturday morning, November 3, 2018 at 10:30 am in the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 S. Market St., Mt. Carmel. Rev. Francis J. Karwacki, Pastor will officiate. A visitation will be held on Saturday morning from 9:00 am until 10:30 am at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his honor to the Pittsburgh School of the Blind, 201 N. Bellefield Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15213.
