Charles Thomas McAndrew

Charles Thomas McAndrew, 84 of Mount Carmel passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2024 at the Mt. Carmel Senior Living Center where he had been a resident for several months.

Born on January 10, 1940 in Shamokin, he was the son of the late Thomas F. and Catherine (Fickinger) McAndrew.

He was a 1957 graduate of Catholic High School in Mt. Carmel.

On July 24, 1965 in Marion Heights, he married JoAnn (Zenuch) McAndrew who preceded him in death on June 28, 2013.

Following graduation, he enlisted in the Pennsylvania State Police in February of 1962. Upon becoming a Trooper, he was assigned to Troop H Headquarters in Harrisburg and later transferred to the Shamokin Substation of Troop F. Much of his career was spent in criminal investigation assignments, and he was the lead investigator on many high-profile investigations. Upon retiring from the Pennsylvania State Police, he became the Chief of Police for the City of Sunbury and served in that capacity from 1983 until 2002. His law enforcement career spanned over 40 years. A life-long car enthusiast, he also owned and operated McAndrew Auto Sales in Mt. Carmel for over 30 years.

He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish.

Surviving are one son, Thomas McAndrew of Emmaus; two granddaughters, Alaina and Gabriella McAndrew; sister, Mary Janet Rudisill of Mt. Carmel; niece Ann (Rudisill) Connelly, nephew Alan Rudisill, great nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Mt. Carmel with the Rev. Francis J. Karwacki, Pastor as the celebrant. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Ralpho Township. A viewing will be held on Monday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Tuesday from 8:30 until 9:45 am at the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 South Market Street Mt. Carmel, Joseph J. Stutz, III Supervisor.
