Enid O. David

Enid O. David, 93 formerly of Mahanoy Plane, PA went to be with her husband, family and with the Lord on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 while a patient at the University of Florida Shands Research Hospital in Gainesville, FL.

She was born on September 18, 1923 in Nanticoke, Pa being the first of four children of the late George Addison Learn of Tannersville and the late Olsen Ethyl (Evans) Learn of Nanticoke.

She was a 1941 graduate of Pocono Township High School in Tannersville, PA. She then entered nursing school at St. Luke's in Philadelphia, PA where she graduated as a RN in March 1945. She nursed returning service personnel at the VA Medical Center until 1954.

On 12 May 1952 she married her husband Stanley David of Mahanoy Plane, PA where they resided until his death in 1997. Stanley was a miner and served as the Gilberton Boro Chief of Police. She later lived in California, Arizona, and Florida. She resided with her son and grandchildren in Florida since 2007 until her passing.

She was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Cathedral in St. Petersburg, Florida and was a former member of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Gilberton, PA. She was also a member of the Pennsylvania Retired Nurses Association.

Enid was a loving wife and mother. She was a devoted registered nurse for over 40 years spending most of her duty in critical care. She saved countless patients and loved them all.

Until her last minutes on earth she was driven by compassion and love for others...never herself. So much so the doctors, interns, nurses, and her son were with her at her passing and even as medical professionals they wept for the loss of this very special colleague and mother. The world is a better place because of her and her work is done.

Survivors include her son, Stanley David of Gainesville, Florida; two grandchildren, Adrienne David of Erie, PA. and Ryan David of Gainesville, Florida; one sister, May Ann Toms of Buckley, Arizona; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, George Learn and one sister, Geraldine Learn-Baltzer.

Divine Liturgy will be held on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 10:00 am in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Gilberton. The Rev. Petro Zvarych will officiate. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. A viewing will be held at the church on Friday from 8:30 am until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy can be sent to the funeral home which will be used for her memorial monument.
