Evelyn (Lucas) Strike, 98, of Mount Carmel peacefully passed away on January 26, 2023.
Evelyn was born on July 29, 1924 to the late Benjamin and Della (Shuda) Lucas. Evelyn attended Mount Carmel Area High School where she served as class secretary and was the lead in several school musicals. She graduated with honors in 1942.
In 1943, Evelyn married her high school sweetheart, Edward Strike, in Elkton, MD while Edward was on a 3-day pass during his service in the United States Navy. They were married for an incredible 77 years before Edward’s passing in 2021. It is no wonder that Evelyn always described Edward as the love of her life.
While Edward was serving his country, Evelyn moved to Philadelphia to work in a defense plant in support of the war efforts. One of the highlights of her time there was meeting and shaking the hand of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. When World War II ended, Edward and Evelyn settled down in Mount Carmel and found great joy in raising their two children, Linda and Frank.
Known for her kindness and nurturing, Evelyn will be greatly missed. Her legacy will live on in those who were fortunate enough to be in her network of friends and family.
Evelyn is survived by a son, Frank Strike and his wife, Estrella, of Fairfax, Virginia; three granddaughters, Gabrielle Strike Karthauser and her husband, Zachary, and their son, Edward, Katherine Strike and her fiancé, Michael, and Tamara Ozlanski and her husband, Michael; and her son-in-law, James Rathosky.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Strike, August 19, 2021; her brother, Richard Lucas, August 2, 2006; and her daughter, Linda Rathosky, Jan. 24, 2018.
