George Leon Stankiewicz, Jr.

George Leon Stankiewicz Jr., 43, of Mount Carmel passed away unexpectedly Thursday, August 30, 2018, while hiking at Ricketts Glen State Park in Luzerne County.

He was born in Ashland on September 29, 1974, the son of the late George Leon Stankiewicz Sr. and the late Agnes (Pesarchick) Stankiewicz.

He was a 1992 graduate of Mount Carmel Area High School and was previously employed at International Paper, Mount Carmel Township.

George was a down-to-earth person who enjoyed sports, especially baseball and football. He was an avid New York Yankees and San Francisco 49ers fan.

He is survived by a sister, Maryann Remash, of Atlas; two nephews, Josh Stelma and his wife, Sung Lee, of West Virginia, and Justin Stelma and his wife, Stacie, of Overlook; a great-nephew, Chase Stelma and a great-niece, Sabreena Stelma; cousins and many friends.

Preceding him in death in addition to his parents was a brother-in-law, Joseph "Remo" Remash, on June 15, 2018.
