Gerald Augustin Beierschmitt

April 3, 1940 — December 20, 2020

Gerald Augustin Beierschmitt, Jr., 80 of 115 East Fourth Street, Mount Carmel passed away on Sunday morning, December 20, 2020 at The Emmanuel Center, Danville.

Born in Danville on April 3, 1940, he was the son of the late Gerald A. Beierschmitt, Sr. and Dora (Betz) Beierschmitt. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

Gerald (Jerry) was the valedictorian of his Mount Carmel High School class and he earned a BA in Education and International Relations from the University of Maryland and a Masters in Education and Information Systems from the University of Southern California.

Jerry led an interesting life. He was a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force spending his career as an Intelligence Officer during the Cold War. His tours of duty took him to California, Vietnam, Denver, Washington, DC and Germany, where he met his vivacious wife, Waltraud. The highlight of his Air Force career came in supporting LOCE (Limited Operational Capability Europe) in the 1980’s, a system that provided U.S. forces, NATO forces, and other national allied military organizations with near-real-time, correlated situation and order of battle information. After retiring from the Air Force, he became a government contractor ending his career as the AT&T Program Manager for the National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS).

Jerry’s passion was golf. An excellent player, Jerry competed and played all over the world instilling his love of the game in his son, a frequent partner. Jerry loved nothing more than a round of golf and spinning yarns at the 19th hole about his experiences on the course, in the Air Force and chance encounters with Bill Clinton, Vladimir Putin, Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis, Jr. In his final years, Jerry was happiest enjoying good food, fine wine and a martini surrounded by his family.

Surviving are one daughter, Michele Ann Beierschmitt Krohn and her husband Jeffrey Krohn of Berwyn; one son, Gerald Beierschmitt, III and his wife Gretchen of Hallgarten, Germany; four grandchildren, Ethan & Sarah Krohn both of Berwyn and Garitt and Aidan Beierschmitt both of Hallgarten, Germany; three brothers, James Beierschmitt and his wife Marsha of Salt Lake City, Utah, Thomas Beierschmitt and his wife Mary of Farmington, Michigan and Robert Beierschmitt of Mount Carmel; nieces, nephews and their families.
