Joan Marie (Lorant) Chapman, 86, of Aristes, Pennsylvania passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 in the home of her daughter Diane and her son-in-law Patrick, in Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania, surrounded by her loving and dedicated family.
Joan was born in Aristes, Pennsylvania, and was the eldest of 3 children of the late Anthony and Catherine (Kleese) Lorant.
She graduated from Con-Cen High School in June 1954 and entered into the United States Navy at the age of 18 on September 14, 1954. Joan served as a photographer for three years and was proud to be a Navy "Wave".
On November 16, 1957, in St. Ignatius Church in Centralia, she married the love of her life the late John (Jack) Chapman who preceded her in death in 1985.
Together they had 5 children, David (Wanda) Chapman of Coal Twp., Virginia (Steven) Hoffman of Lavelle, Constance (Martin) Bolick of Coal Twp., Diane (Patrick) Fletcher of Mt. Carmel, John Jr. (Michele) Chapman of Mt. Carmel, 16 grandchildren - Nicholas, Justin and Jared Chapman, Joshua Hoffman, Richard and Scott Litchko, Britany Hartz, Daniel, Mitchell, Caroline, Gabriel and Julianne Fletcher, Abigail, Jack, Mia and Ava Chapman, and 9 great grandchildren and also survived by a brother James (Mary Ann) Lorant of Harrisburg .
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her sister Ada Beaver.
Joan loved gardening, bird watching, reading and cooked the best food. She was happiest at family gatherings and hosted the best parties at her house. All of Aristes enjoyed her annual fireworks for the 4th of July. She was the biggest cheerleader for all of her children and grandchildren’s sports events and she loved “her” Eagles and Phillies! She was immensely proud of her military service and passed her patriotism on to several children and grandchildren who also proudly served. She was the Adjutant for Centralia American Legion Post 608. She was a member of the Honor Guard and played Taps on the bugle for every Memorial service for many years. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and an active member of the Mount Carmel Senior center. Joan was always ready to lend a hand and a smile to anyone who needed one. She worked for many years as a certified caregiver at the Mount Carmel nursing home and also at homes for adults with intellectual disabilities. She will be remembered for her love of life and her kindness to others. She was a fighter to the end and will be missed terribly by everyone who knew and loved her.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 2, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church with the Rev. Francis Karwacki, Pastor as celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Ignatius cemetery in Centralia. A viewing will be held Monday morning from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home 40 South Market St. Mt. Carmel, Joseph J. Stutz, III Supervisor. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy can be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish 47 S. Market St. Mt.
