John T. Hoffman

John T. Hoffman, 65, of 415 East Fifth Street, Mount Carmel passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024 surrounded by his family in his home.

Born on January 9, 1959 in former Ashland State Hospital, he was a son of William Charles Lewullis Sr. who survives in Aristes and the late Vincent A. Hoffman and the late Margaret (Sebastian) Hoffman Lewullis.

He was a 1976 graduate of North Schuylkill High School.

John retired as foreman for the PA Department of Transportation (PennDOT).  Upon his retirement, he was employed by the Danville School District in the maintenance department.

On September 12, 1992 in Mountain Top, he married Margaret “Marge” Slotterback Hoffman who survives.

John was a member of the Lavelle Church of the Nazarene.  He was a life-member and former officer of the Clover Hose Co., Mt. Carmel.  He was also a current member and officer of the Atlas Fire Company and was a member of the Wilburton Fire Company and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #464, Mount Carmel.  In addition, he was an avid pool shooter.

John was well known and enjoyed “socializing”.  To say he was the “life of the party” was an understatement; actually, he was the center of attention and thoroughly enjoyed the spotlight.  Known as “Juan Dingo”, he made many people laugh and created memories that will not be forgotten.  He truly enjoyed life and especially the time spent with his family and friends.

Surviving in addition to his wife of thirty-one years, Margaret “Marge” Hoffman and his father, William C. "Bill" Lewullis are his daughter, Nicole Hoffman Fisher and her husband Andy of Smithsburg, Maryland; son, Joshua Hoffman and his partner Jennifer English of Brooklyn, New York; three stepsons, Jack Slotterback III and his wife Karen of Mount Carmel, Douglas Slotterback and his wife Cheryl of Wilburton and David M. Slotterback and his wife Elizabeth of Mount Carmel; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kathy Lewullis-Petrus and her husband Thomas of Mountain Top and Karen Lewullis-Slotterback and her husband Jack of Mount Carmel; three brothers, Vincent Hoffman of Tennessee, William Lewullis Jr. and his wife Bridgett of York, and Christopher Lewullis of Tennessee; his former wife, Kathleen Hoffman of Aristes; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.

Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were his brother, Mark Hoffman; and his sister, Vera Bucher.
