Joni Simmons-Close

Joni Simmons-Close, 59, of 131 West Third Street Mt. Carmel, passed away on Wednesday January 3rd, 2018.

Born in Shamokin on December 1, 1958 she was the daughter of the late William and Joan M. (Petroski) Simmons.

She was a graduate of Mt. Carmel Area High School. She also attended culinary school.
Joni had been employed in the housekeeping department at the Genetti Hotel in Williamsport.
She enjoyed baking and cooking. She also liked to make jewelry and various other crafts.

She is survived by one son, Brandon Close of Brooklyn, NY; one daughter, Moriah Close of York; one grandchild, Christian Close of Danville; three sisters, Theresa Simmons-Albertson of Tucson, AZ, Mary Ann Tym of Shenandoah and Judy Simmons-McGinley of Shermanstown; one brother, Joseph Simmons of Tucson, AZ; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Close on October 29th, 1998.

Religious services will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2017 at 10:00 am at the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home 40 South Market Street Mt. Carmel with the Rev. Francis J. Karwacki officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery Beaverdale.

In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy can be made to the funeral home to defray the cost of services.
