Joseph J. Tighe, 78 of 228 West Third Street, Mount Carmel passed away early on Monday morning, September 5, 2022 at his residence with his family by his side. He fought a courageous one-year battle with cancer and while enduring it, he never lost his good humor, faith and love for his family and friends.
He was born on April 14, 1944 in the former Ashland State Hospital and raised in Centralia. He was the son of the late Joseph Tighe, Sr. and Dorothy (Marsh) Tighe.
Joseph attended the former St. Ignatius Elementary School, Centralia and then graduated in 1962 from Mount Carmel High School.
Mr. Tighe joined the US Army in 1962 and served in France and various bases until his honorable discharge in 1964.
After serving in the military, Joe worked at Fort Indiantown Gap, then for Reading Contractors Steel Mills and lastly for Arcos Industries, Mount Carmel until his disability.
In 1978, Joseph married his devoted wife of forty-four years, the former Debbie Andrewleski who survives and who fought the cancer battle with him every day since his diagnosis. Together they have one daughter, Lori Ann Tighe of Bloomsburg and two grandchildren, Mallory and Simon Lipsky. Lori Ann, Mallory and Simon were his greatest joys in life.
He was a member of Holy Angels Church, Kulpmont and a faithful twenty plus year member of the Rosary Group of the former Saint Casimir’s Church which was a weekly friendly gathering held to pray the Rosary.
Joe enjoyed watching television, going out with his wife, daughter, and grandkids for dinner. He also enjoyed meeting up his buddies to share his many stories and attending bingo with his wife.
He was blessed with a great personality and never had a bad word for anyone, nor did he have a jealous bone in his body. Joe enjoyed life and was content with all that he had.
In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret “Peggy” Horvath who last resided in Levittown.
