Joseph Patrick Murray, 84 of Mount Carmel, passed away on Friday, November 18, 2022 at Brook Grove Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Sandy Spring, Maryland.
Born in Ashland on November 24, 1937, he was as son of the late John H. and Annette M. (Gaughan) Murray.
He was a graduate of the former Girardville High School.
Mr. Murray served his country in the US Air Force.
Prior to his retirement, Joseph was employed by the National Security Agency, Department of Defense, Washington D.C.
On November 26, 1964, in the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, he married the former Mary Ellen Devine, who preceded him in death on July 8, 2014.
Joe was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, where he served on the Finance Committee. He was a Third Degree Knight in the Mount Carmel Knights of Columbus. Joe enjoyed volunteering with Our Lady’s and had a green thumb.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents and his wife of almost fifty years, Mary Ellen Murray, was his brother, John H. Murray on August 31, 2014.
Surviving are his son, Brendan Joseph Murray and his wife Mary Alice Murray of Ellicott City, MD; his brother-in-law, Father Patrick Devine of Elysburg; two sisters-in-laws, Margaret “Peggy” Murray of South Carolina and Frances Joyce of New Jersey; nieces, nephews and their families.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at 11:00 am in the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel with his brother-in-law, the Rev. Patrick Devine as the celebrant and the Rev. Francis J. Karwacki, Pastor concelebrating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap. A visitation will be held on Wednesday morning from 9:00 am until 10:45 am at the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 South Market Street, Mt. Carmel, Joseph J. Stutz, III Supervisor. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, 47 South Market Street, Mount Carmel, PA 17851 or The Michael J.
