Joseph William Nagy, 50 of 201 Melrose Street Marion Heights, passed away on Friday January 12, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born in Bloomsburg on March 15, 1967 he was the son of Bill Nagy and the late Roseann (Labowski) Nagy.
He was a 1985 graduate of Mt. Carmel Area High School and also attended Kings College.
Joseph served in the United States Air Force from 1989 until 1993 and was deployed in Operation Desert Storm in 1991 having been stationed in Lindsey Air Station, Germany. He received the Air Force Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, Longevity service ribbon and training ribbon.
Joseph was married in Our Lady of Hope Church in Coal Township on October 4, 1997 to Theresa (Keim) Nagy who survives.
After his discharge from the Air Force, Joseph was employed at Mountain View Manor in the culinary department.
He was a member and past President of the Kulpmont Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #823, Atlas American Legion Post # 92, and the Marion Heights and Brady Fire Companies. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, cooking on the grill. He was an avid Miami Dolphin and Penn State Football fan.
In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by one sister, Sharon Cichon of Marion Heights; his niece and nephew who he adored, Karissa and Thomas Alec Cichon; one brother-in-law, Thomas Cichon of Natalie; aunts, Darlene Dick of Pillow and Rose Brozoskie of Marion Heights; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Randy and Francie Keim of Coal Township; his best friend, Tara Avellino and family of Marion Heights and numerous cousins.
In addition to his mother Roseann, he was preceded in death by several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at 11:00 am in Holy Angels Church, Kulpmont with the Rev. Andrew Stahmer as celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg. A viewing will be held on Monday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Tuesday morning from 9:00 am until 10:30 am at the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 South Market Street, Mt. Carmel.
In lieu of flowers and in memory of his mother Roseann, expressions of sympathy can be made to ALS Association Greater Philadelphia Chapter, 321 Norristown Road Suite 260 Ambler, PA 19002.
