Lamar Eugene Richie, 85, of Elysburg passed away on January 7, 2021 at his home. Lamar was born on January 19, 1935 and was the son of the late Earl and Reba (Teitsworth) Richie. He graduated from Ralpho Township High School in 1953 where he excelled on the soccer field and baseball diamond. He served in the United States Army Reserves from 1957-1963.
Lamar married the love of his life Beryl (Watkins) Richie on February 23, 1957 and they remained happily married for 64 years until his passing. In addition to being survived by his wife, he is survived by son Doug Richie and daughter Beth (Richie) Fegley, both a daughter-in-law and son-in-law, as well as four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Lamar spent 41 years of his life working at TRW in Danville. For 12 years, Lamar served as the Ralpho Township Tax Collector. After retiring, he enjoyed spending time with students from Southern Columbia Area School District as a van driver. He was a member of the Elysburg Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, Trustee, and Sunday School Superintendent. Lamar grew up attending Clark’s Grove United Methodist Church and spent many Sundays attending services in the latter years of his life.
He was a member of the Elysburg Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years, Bloomsburg Consistory, Elysburg Fire Company, Elysburg Fish and Game, and Elysburg Valley Gun and Country Club where he held an officer position for many years. He was a longtime youth baseball coach that was a positive influence for many players.
Lamar was a testament of living life to the fullest. In addition to all the long hours he put in during his days of working and coaching, Lamar loved being a fan for all the Southern Columbia Area athletic programs. It was a rarity to not see him at a sporting event rooting on his Tigers. During the day, many people recognized him driving around town in his signature pickup truck wearing his hat either heading to his hunting ground, the gun club, or McDonalds to chat with friends. His love for God and his family was his first love. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Anyone that knew Lamar realized his love for the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and trap shooter. Lamar enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren’s success hunting and fishing more than his own by just being by their side.
Lamar’s daughter Beth and son-in-law David Fegley reside in Elysburg and are the parents of his grandsons David and Brad. Lamar’s son Doug resides in Stroudsburg with his wife Kristin and are the parents of his granddaughters Lauren and Lyn. Lyn is married to Eric Feola, and they are the parents of Lamar’s two great-grandchildren James and Annette.
