Marie Antoinette “Annette” “Netta” (Sassani) Gutgold, age 87 formerly of Long Island, NY, Deerfield Beach, FL, and Ringtown, Mt. Carmel, Jim Thorpe, Allentown, PA went to be with the Lord on Sunday evening, November 25, 2018 after a valiant struggle with lymphoma. She was a breast cancer survivor and was a devout Catholic and believed in the power of prayer.
Born in Atlas on January 20, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Carlo and Josephine (Ciocco) Sassani. She graduated from Mt. Carmel Catholic High School and St. Agnes School of Nursing. She worked as a nurse at Danville State Hospital and prior to that in her younger years in Philadelphia and New York. She also worked as a private duty nurse while raising her three children.
She always enjoyed a good cup of coffee, traveling and reading. She will be lovingly remembered for her beautiful smile, her devotion to her family, her care-taking of her husband, and fun times with her grandchildren especially at “Camp Gutgold” in the Poconos.
She is survived by her husband Emanuel; sons, Geoffrey Gutgold and his wife Nichola of Allentown; and Glen Gutgold and his wife Gail of Thurmont, Maryland; five grandchildren, Travis, Ian, Mitchell, Emily, and Elliott; one step-grandson, Wyatt, one great-grandson, Ethan; one sister-in-law, Eileen Sassani of Mt. Carmel.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Illyssa Gutgold in 1980 and her brothers, Arthur, Anthony, Michael and Carlo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 10:30 am in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church with the Rev. Francis J. Karwacki, Pastor as the celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Mt. Carmel Township. A visitation will be held on Saturday morning from 9:30 am until 10:30 am at the church.
At the request of the family no flowers will be accepted. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to Hospice of Central PA, Carolyn’s House, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
