Marie (Kandybowski) Evans, aged 83, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2024 in Gainesville, Florida. Born on April 15, 1941 in Mt. Carmel, Pennsylvania, a daughter of Vincent and Mary (Hrinda) Kandybowski.
She was a 1959 graduate of Mt. Carmel Catholic High school.
On September 11, 1999 she married the love of her life Garey Evans. This year marked their 25th wedding anniversary.
Marie began her career serving as a church secretary at St. Joseph’s Church in Mt. Carmel, a role that highlighted her dedication to her faith and community. She later transitioned to the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare in Harrisburg, PA where she continued to impact lives through her hard work and commitment to service. She was a member of the Cedar Key Florida Women’s Club and Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority in Harrisburg, PA
She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Chiefland, Florida, Holy Family Catholic Church, Williston, Florida and a former member of St Joseph’s Church in Mt. Carmel.
Marie lived a life marked by kindness, compassion and dedication to her family and friends. She was always ready to lend a helping hand. Her role as a loving wife, stepmother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend left a lasting imprint on her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Marie is survived by her husband Dan Garey Evans, stepdaughters, Ann Spencer (David) and Leigh Hays (Bobby), grandsons Ian Spencer, Elias “Eli” Spencer, August Hays, and Johnston “Jack” Hays, sister Carol Shadduck (Howard), nephew David Shadduck and niece Dana Foust. She was preceded in death by her parents Vincent and Mary Kandybowski, paternal and maternal grandparents and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
Marie’s legacy of love, kindness and generosity will forever be cherished and remembered by her family and friends. She will be truly missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 17, 2025 at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church with the Very Rev. Francis J. Karwacki, Pastor as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Mt. Carmel, Township. A visitation will be held Friday from 10:00 am until the time of Mass at the church. Joseph J. Stutz, Inc.
