Marilyn L. Werner

Marilyn L. (Matz) Werner, 87, a resident of Catawissa, formerly of Reading, passed away in her home on Thursday July 13, 2023.


Born on November 1, 1935 at Community General Hospital Reading, Marilyn was the youngest of four daughters to Ralph and Clara (Stutzman) Matz.


Marilyn was the loving wife of the late Frank L. Werner with whom she spent 65 years. He preceded her in death in 2021.

She was a 1953 graduate of Reading High School.


Marilyn started her working career as Assistant to the Athletic Director of Albright College in Reading. She then worked as the office manager for Overhead Door Co. of Reading for 38 years having retired in 1997.


After retiring, Marilyn and her husband retired to the home they built in Catawissa, PA. Marilyn was the Supervisor of Elections of Roaring Creek Township. She was an avid Pinochle player with the Women of Roaring Creek, and she loved playing Dominoes and board games with family.


In addition to her parents and her husband, Marilyn was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia (Matz) Seigfried and Mary (Matz) Shoffner.


Marilyn is survived by her sister, Elizabeth “Betty” (Matz) Sell; her son, Brooke Werner of Catawissa; her daughter, Cheryl Boughter and her husband Steven of Oley; three granddaughters, Danielle (Werner) Busch and her husband Stephen, Michelle Werner and her life partner Caleb Knoll, and Shelby (Boughter) Bartman and her husband Brian. Marilyn is also survived by her four great grandchildren whom she loved very much, Chloe, Kara, Sophia, and Weston.


Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to the Kulp United Methodist Church 1395 Old Reading Road Catawissa, Pa. 17820.
