Mary Louise (McCormick) Zelonis, 100 of Shenandoah formerly of Mahanoy City passed away on Tuesday morning, December 10, 2024 at Pottsville Rehabilitation & Nursing Center.

Born in Philadelphia on September 18, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Edith (Coulson) McCormick.

Mary Louise was lovingly known as “Granny” to many. She lived a long and active life, she loved and was loved by many. On September 18, she celebrated her 100th birthday with her family and friends. In addition, another party was held in her honor at her care facility with all of the affectionate staff celebrating her milestone.

She was a diehard bingo player and supported many organizations several times a week; she loved the game and thankfully was quite a lucky player. She also enjoyed visiting the casinos. Granny loved taking daily walks around town where she routinely dropped in the local stores often purchasing lottery scratch off tickets. Some will remember her from the “Dial and Deal” days on the former WMBT radio station, she was a frequent caller and sold many items over the years. She also loved to sing; it was not uncommon for her to randomly break into song with one of her favorite tunes being “I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck”.

Granny was an avid traveler, visiting many different places including trips to her daughter’s house in Arizona. She enjoyed crocheting and made many beautiful blankets for her family and friends. She also was a fan of the “Price is Right”.

Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were her husband, John Zelonis, Sr. on January 24, 1970; her son, John “Jack” Zelonis; daughter, Sandra Hylton; grandson, David Blank; four brothers, Francis, Arthur, Robert and Joseph Zelonis; and three sisters, Lucy, Dorothy and Edith.

Surviving are her daughter, Dianne Bereschak and her husband Edward of Shenandoah Heights; two sons, Donley Zelonis and his wife Barbara of Mahanoy City and Andrew Zelonis and his wife Anna of Barnesville; seven grandchildren, including her devoted caregiver, Sharlaine Shustack, Christina Urban, Michael Blank, Jason Zelonis, Cassondra Riegel, Andraleen Zelonis Savlik, and Loren Zelonis; several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
