Mary Margaret Mayton, age 73, of 3 Lamplight Acres, Kulpmont, passed away early Saturday morning, September 17, 2016, at her home surrounded by her family.
Born in Shamokin, on July 16, 1943, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary (Fenix) Sage.
Mary was a retired Bookkeeper. She had been employed at Northumberland Memorial Park in Stonington until her retirement. Prior to that, Mary worked in the payroll department at the Arrow Shirt Company for many years.
On December 1, 2006, in Maryland she married Stephen Mayton who survives.
Mary is a Graduate of Shamokin High School where she was a member of the national honor society.
She had a strong faith in God and was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish.
Mary was a member of the Shamokin Moose for many years and enjoyed bowling. She enjoyed doing needlework, crocheting, and was a fantastic cook. Mary was also a long-time Mt. Carmel Area Football fan and loved her cats dearly.
Surviving in addition to her husband is her son, Robert B. J. Swaldi, and his wife Julie of Huntington Beach, California, and niece, Vida Saylor, of Montoursville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter McCollough, and sister Ann Ference Milo.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. in the Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. The Rev. Francis J. Karwacki will be celebrant. Burial will be at Northumberland Memorial Park in Stonington. Visitation will be held Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 South Market Street Mt. Carmel, Joseph J. Stutz, III Supervisor.
