Mildred A. Callahan, age 93, formerly of 237 S. Locust St., Mount Carmel, passed away Friday, November 24, 2017 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born on January 8, 1924 in Atlas, PA, she was a daughter of the late Ladislaus Flowers-Kwiatkowski and Josephine (Wegrzynowicz) Flowers-Kwiatkowski.
Mildred attended Mt. Carmel Township Schools.
On November 11, 1943, in New Orleans, she married to Francis P. Callahan, Sr. who preceded her in death on December 27, 2016.
Mildred was a retired seamstress. She had been employed at area garment factories prior to working at Mountain View Manor Nursing Home where she was also employed as a seamstress until her retirement.
Millie was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and the Mt. Carmel Senior Action Center. She enjoyed camping, decorating, arts and crafts, bingo and playing the lottery. Above all she enjoyed spending time with her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving are four daughters: Joanne Fishburn of Ashland; Margaret Callahan-Kuskin and her husband Lou of Harrisburg; Diane Parenzan of Morrisville, and Ann Wengrenovich of Elysburg; three sons: Francis P. Callahan Jr. and his wife Janet of Richmond, Va.; Thomas Callahan of Apollo Beach, Fla., and David Callahan and his wife Jody of Danville; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in by one sister and several brothers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 30th, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church with the Rev. Francis Karwacki as celebrant. Interment will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday from 9 am until 10:15 am at the Joseph J. Stutz Inc. Funeral Home, 40 S. Market St., Mount Carmel.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105.
