Mildred Frances Kent, age 87 of 11319 State Route 61, Mt. Carmel passed away on Saturday evening, December 17, 2016 at her residence.
Born in Mt. Carmel on October 8, 1929 she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Frances (Kowalewski) Zukowski.
She was a 1947 graduate of Mount Carmel High School. In 1950 she graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Reading PA. Mildred became a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) and was employed at Pottsville Hospital, Ashland Hospital and the Mount Carmel Nursing Home in addition to raising five wonderful children.
On February 19, 1955 in the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church in Centralia she married Stephen (Krynitsky) Kent, who survives.
Mildred was a member of SS Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Mount Carmel. She was an avid supporter of Mt. Carmel Area football and girls basketball teams, especially during the time when her children were playing on the teams. She was a former member of the Mt. Carmel Area Boosters Association. Above all, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was the family caregiver and an exceptional cook. She loved taking care of her family and friends as well as trying her luck at the local casinos.
In addition to her husband of 61 years, Stephen Kent, she is survived by two sons, Dr. Gregory Kent and his wife Kimberly of Eagle, Idaho and Barry Kent and his wife Tatiana of San Marcos, California; three daughters, Tina Kent-Wywadis of Stephenson, Virginia, Francine Kent of Santa Monica, California and Cheryl Kent her domestic partner Captain Nieto of Seal Beach, California; ten grandchildren, Tanya Wywadis, Kristin Yates, Jaime Wywadis, Jesse Wywadis, Danielle Kent, Alexander Kent, Harrison Kent, Olivia Kent, Sasha Kent and Brooke Kent; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Stella Blackwell of Mt. Carmel; three sisters-in-law, Clara Zukowski of Aston, PA, Cecilia Zukowski of Trenton, New Jersey and Helen Whyne of Mt. Carmel; one brother-in-law, Nicholas Kent of Elysburg; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
A special thanks to Stella, Helen and Nick for helping us care for our sweet mother.
Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were two brothers, Chester and John Zukowski and one sister, Pearl Zema.
Divine Liturgy will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am in SS Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 131 N. Beech St., Mt. Carmel, with the Very Rev. Archpriest Michael Hutsko, Pastor officiating. Interment will follow in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Centralia. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing on Thursday morning from 9:00 am until 10:45 am at the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 S. Market St., Mt. Carmel.
