Elysburg-Our beautiful Mom passed from this world on Saturday, December 23, 2023, joining our sister and dad. She was our everything - our mom, our best friend, a Nana, a sister, an aunt, and we were incredibly blessed to have been loved and raised by her.
Monica M. Martin was born on February 5, 1935, and passed away on December 23, 2023, with her loving family by her side. She was the daughter of the late Monica M. (Lahnstein) and Frank J. Domzalski. She graduated from Coal Township High School and St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in Lancaster. On April 20, 1955, she married Ned E. Martin who predeceased her on November 28, 2004. She was also predeceased by a daughter, Denise Martin, on January 10, 1965.
She began her career working for Weight Watchers of Central PA then became one of the first women in the area to work for Bell Telephone, often commenting how difficult that was considering it was, at that time, a "man's" job and she wasn't always welcomed. She then went on to work for Danville State Hospital as an activities aide, retiring in 1994. She also worked several summers at Knoebel’s as a ticket seller.
Mom's favorite pastimes were flea markets and yard sales; scouring the aisles of Ollie's and Boscov's; trips to the casino with her daughter, Nan (who was only too happy to indulge her); and worrying about anything and everything.
Every day, in every way, she showed us love - from a card for every occasion (big or small); to calling us asking about the smallest details of our lives; to the numerous reminders to "watch out for the deer" - we knew we were loved. Heaven has gained the most beautiful angel and her passing has left a void in our lives.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Karen, David, Lisa, Pat and Nan; grandchildren, Sam, Danica, Shay, Julia and Joseph; great grandchildren, Lily, Jay and Colby; nieces, Carolyn and Amanda, and nephew, Christopher. She is also survived by brothers John Domzalski and Michael Domzalski, and sister Suzanne Domzalski Ciummei.
Special thanks to Stacy Berkheiser, her caregiver and friend, to whom we will be forever grateful to for all of the love and care she provided Mom. And thanks also to Pam, her hospice nurse, and the wonderful comfort team at Geisinger Hospice.
Thank you Mom, for everything. To the world you were our Mom, but to us you were our world.
A celebration of Mom's beautiful life will be held at a later date. Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home 40 South Market Street Mt. Carmel, Joseph J. Stutz, III Supervisor is entrusted with arrangements. To leave a condolence to the family please visit www.stutzfuneralhome.com
