Raymond P. O’Neill, 87 of 60 Hickory Lane, Locust Gap passed away on Friday, February 22, 2019 at his home.
Born at home in Locust Gap on August 7, 1931 he was a son of the late Patrick and Mary (Betz) O’Neill.
He was a 1949 graduate of the former Mount Carmel Township High School.
Mr. O’Neill was a decorated Korean War Army veteran. He served in the 22-3 Infantry Regiment and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
On March 16, 1984 he married the former Mary Barber Kane who preceded him in death.
Ray retired from Catawissa Lumber Company.
He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish and was a life member of the Locust Gap Fire Company and the Kulpmont American Legion Post 231.
Ray was a humble and kind man. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan and was most proud of his Irish heritage.
Surviving are his four stepchildren, Peggy Thompson of Marion Heights, Debra Kozock and her husband Gary of Mt. Carmel, Mare Yeager and her husband Rick of Atlas and David Kane and his wife Ranee of Den-Mar Gardens; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Peggy Gregory and her husband Robert of Red Lion; one brother-in-law, Carl Hornung of Phoenixville; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents and his wife, Mary (Barber) Kane O’Neill were his son-in-law, Tom Thompson and two sisters, Dorothy Carlin and Eleanor Hornung.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Mt. Carmel with Rev. Francis J. Karwacki, Pastor as the celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Locust Gap. A viewing will be held on Wednesday morning from 9:00 am until 10:45 am in the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc.
