Robert Francis “Cat” Brosokas, age 67, a resident of Mount Carmel for the past four years passed away Sunday morning, February 5, 2017 at Broad Mountain Health & Rehabilitation Center, Frackville.
Robert resided in Virginia for a great part of his life while working there and was a resident of Centralia in his childhood and earlier years.
Born in Ashland on May 20, 1949 he was the son of the late Frank C. “Bosco” Brosokas and Stella B. (Dembkowski) Brosokas who survives.
He was a 1967 graduate of Mt. Carmel High School and a 1971 graduate of the then Bloomsburg State College earning a bachelor’s degree in social studies.
Robert retired from Arlington National Cemetery as a funeral coordinator. He worked under Metro Kowalchick, Supervisor of the cemetery at that time. Robert arranged, directed and assisted bereaved families during their time of need. After retiring from Arlington National Cemetery, he worked for a time as a security officer for Wilderness Presidential Resort, Spotsylvania, Virginia.
He was a member of Divine Redeemer Parish, Mt. Carmel. While growing up in Centralia, he was an altar boy at the former St. Ignatius Church and played Little League Baseball. His love for baseball continued later in life while living in Virginia as he played softball on various teams in the area. Cat was a passionate fan of the New York Yankees, the Philadelphia Eagles and Penn State. He was an avid history buff; he knew much about everything but was especially knowledgeable and interested in the Civil War period.
Surviving in addition to his mother, Stella B. Brosokas are three sisters, Mary Frances McManiman and her husband Robert of Harrisburg, Patricia Kimsal and her husband Leonard of Kulpmont and Christina “Tina” Bucher and her husband Barry of Den-Mar Gardens, Kulpmont; one niece, Kimberly Douglas and her husband, Tim of San Jose, California; three nephews, Lenny Kimsal and his wife, Brooke of Kulpmont, Brandon Bucher and his wife Jayme of Middleburg and Matthew Bucher and his wife April of New Market, Maryland; a special cousin, John Locke and his wife Karen of Frackville; seven great-nieces, four great-nephews, additional cousins and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday morning, February 10, 2017 at 11:00 am in Divine Redeemer Church, 300 West Ave., Mount Carmel. Very Rev. Martin O. Moran III, VF, Pastor will officiate. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap, Ralpho Township. There will be no visitation or services at the funeral home. Everyone is invited to attend the mass and burial.
