Robert W. “Bob” Jevelle, 92 of Kulpmont, passed away on Friday, January 12, 2024 at Geisinger Shamokin Area Community Hospital, Coal Township with his daughters by his side.

Born on June 13, 1931 at Ashland State Hospital, he was a son of the late Michael and Theresa “Tessie” (Discavage) Jevelle.

He was a 1950 graduate of the former Shenandoah Catholic High School.  After that, he was off to Tuscaloosa to play for the Alabama Crimson Tide on a scholarship; however, a knee injury sent him home.  He decided to move to San Francisco, CA to work with his Uncle Leo until “Uncle Sam” called him and he joined the U.S. Air Force in September 1952.  He served in Japan during the Korean War in the Strategic Air Command and was honorably discharged in September 1956.  He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.  He continued his military service with the reserve component of the Air Force until September 1960 having attained the rank of Sergeant.

Bob was married to the former Christine M. Cikot in the former Saint George Church, Shenandoah on February 6, 1960.  Their union lasted sixty years until she sadly passed away on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2020.

In October 1957, he graduated from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in Hershey and was enlisted until July 1981.  He was stationed in Montoursville, Lock Haven and lastly at the Coal Township barracks until his retirement.  During his service, he completed training to operate radar detection to catch scofflaws who were exceeding the speed limits and also provided instruction to his fellow officers.  He was also responsible for inspecting local inspection stations and administering driving license examinations.  Bob was one of the first responders of the infamous Leo Held Rampage in Lock Haven in 1967; his picture was included in the book, “Day of Rage, Model Citizen Turns Cold-Blooded Killer in a Small Pennsylvania Town.”  Bob was proud of his civil service and kept his family and friends entertained with many colorful stories of his investigations and arrests.  Upon his retirement from the PSP, he worked at the local Kmart as a loss prevention manager for ten years.

Bob was a life-long, devout Catholic; he regularly attended mass and was a member of Holy Angels Parish, Kulpmont and its Holy Name Society.  He was also a member of the Retired State Police Association, Fraternal Order of Police, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Shenandoah Knights of Columbus Council 618, Kulpmont American Legion Post 231 and the Kulpmont West End Fire Association.  He was also a member of the former Shenandoah Catholic War Veterans Post 1107.

Preceding him in death in addition to his parents and his wife was his brother, Leon “Sam” Jevelle of Shenandoah.

Surviving are his son, Leonard Jevelle at home; daughter, Lisa Angelo and her husband William and their son, Nicklaus “Oscar” Angelo all of Kulpmont; and daughter, Jennifer Jevelle of Kulpmont and her companion Greg Bondura.
