Robert P. Smith

Robert P. Smith, 70 of 415 East Seventh Street, Mt. Carmel and a former Centralia resident passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Born in Lock Haven on January 18, 1952, he was a son of the late Raymond J. and Margaret (Jakabcin) Smith.

He was a 1971 graduate of Mt. Carmel High School and a graduate of Bloomsburg State College.

Following his high school graduation, he was drafted into the United State Army and served during the Vietnam War. He served in the U.S. Army from 1972 until 1974.

Robert was retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons where he was employed as a Correctional Counselor for 32 years before his retirement.

He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, Mt. Carmel Knights of Columbus Council # 628, Ashland Fraternal Order or Elks, Clover Hose Fire Company and numerous other fraternal organizations. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Robert was a friendly and kind soul to everyone. He got along easily with people.

Surviving are one son, Josh Smith and his wife Shannon of Germantown, MD; three grandchildren, Addison, Patrick and Emery Smith; two sisters, Mary Ann Smith of Smithfield, VA, and Margaret Rudock and her husband Michael of Ambler; one brother, Raymond Smith of Danville; two sisters-in-law, Davelle Smith of Bakersfield CA, and Mary Smith of Coal Township; one brother-in-law, Brian Hewitt of Lewisville, KY; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Joseph and James Smith and one sister-in-law, Molly Schultz.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 24, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church with the Rev. Francis J. Karwacki, Pastor as the celebrant. Entombment with military honors will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Ralpho Township. A viewing will be held on Friday morning from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to Knights of Columbus, 128 West Third Street, Mt. Carmel, PA 17851 or Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 47 South Market Street Mt. Carmel. Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 South Market Street, Mt. Carmel, Joseph J. Stutz, III Supervisor has been entrusted with the arrangements.
