MOUNT CARMEL — Sophie A. Marshalek, 84, of 427 E. Seventh St., Mount Carmel, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016, at the Schuylkill Medical Center South, Pottsville. She was born in Kulpmont Jan. 10, 1931, a daughter of the late Michael Pascavage and Helen (Gwiadowska) Pascavage. Sophie attended Kulpmont schools and was a retired machine operator and had been employed in area garment factories. She was married to Edward Marshalek, who preceded her in death in 1970.She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and enjoyed playing bingo and "find a word" puzzles. Surviving are two daughters, Vicky Paul, of Mount Carmel, and Nancy Davidovich, of North Carolina; three grandchildren, Adam Paul, Nicholas and Michael Davidovich and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Edward Marshalek; seven sisters, Helen Pascavage, Anna Brown, Victoria Milligan, Josephine Christian, Maria Long, Alice Kukla and Julia Jenkins; five brothers, Leo, Chester, John, Michael and Louis Pascavage; and two son-in-laws, James Paul and Donald Davidovich. MARSHALEK — Sophie A. Marshalek, 84, of 427 East Seventh St., Mount Carmel, a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, Jan. 11 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel church with the Rev. Francis Karwacki as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Mount Carmel Township. Viewing will be held Monday, Jan. 11 from 9 to 10:45 a.m. in the Joseph J. Stutz, Inc. Funeral Home, 40 S. Market St., Mount Carmel. Joseph J. Stutz, III, supervisor is in charge of arrangements. Guestbook can be signed at www.stutzfuneralhome.com.
