Theresa Ann Walter

August 28, 1947 — January 17, 2025

Mt. Carmel, Pa.

Theresa Ann (Kovalovich) Walter, “Gigi,” of 341 S. Lemon Street, Mt. Carmel, concluded her earthly journey on January 17, 2025, at Geisinger Medical Center after a brief illness.

She was born on August 28, 1947 at Ashland Hospital to John F. and Loretta (Schetroma) Kovalovich. For a short time, she lived in Donahue Row in Mt. Carmel before moving to Atlas with her family. She was the second of five children. She attended St. Peter School and Mount Carmel Area High School. She was employed at Twin Spruce Nursing Home for many years, and then continued her career at Serenity Gardens in Kulpmont until her retirement.

She married David E. Walter of Middleburg on May 24, 1969. They enjoyed 55 years together. Theresa was a wonderful aunt to 25 nieces and nephews, 44 great-nieces and nephews, and 21 great-great-nieces and nephews.

Theresa was a caring, kind-hearted spirit. She left a smile behind wherever she visited. She will be missed very much by her loving husband David, her brother Anthony, and her sister Diane. Her godchild Beth Simpson and niece Lauren Hudick were her go-to people. Corrina and Theo Burns, along with Liam Kovac, anxiously awaited her cards; she was the “cool Italian aunt” who passed cash in the palm of her hand and said, “Shh! Don’t tell your mom!” Theresa could be found at her favorite spots with her husband David and sister Diane, Hollywood Pizza, Boyers, Two Guys From Italy, and the laundromat. She and David spent much time together enjoying life after retirement, going shopping and to family affairs together.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; sisters, Mary Ann Zosh and Loretta Snyder; sisters-in-law, Virginia Kovalovich and Billie Walter; brother-in-law, Steven Walter; niece Desiree Knechtel; and Coco, her sister’s dog that Theresa loved visiting with often.

She is survived by her husband, David; brother Anthony Kovalovich, sister, Diane Dallazia; brothers-in-law, Tom Zosh, Anthony Dallazia, Bob Snyder, Richard, Daniel, Roger, and Andrew Walter and their spouses; and sister-in-law, Rebecca Girton. Theresa will be missed by all who knew her. When you think of her, smile—that’s what she would do. We will miss our wife and sister forever. We have lost a link to our family but her fond memory remains.
