Theresa Yanonis

September 10, 1946 — March 1, 2023

Theresa Yanonis, 76, of 231 East Avenue, Mount Carmel, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at the Mount Carmel Senior Living Community.

Born in Danville on September 10, 1946, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Zosh Sr. and the late Alma (Stawicki) Zosh.

She was a graduate of Mount Carmel High School and Bloomsburg University where she earned a BS in English and an M.ED. in Education. She completed post graduate courses at the University of Scranton and Penn State University.

Theresa was a school teacher having worked for one year in the Mount Carmel School District and then for thirty-three years in the Hazleton Area School District until her retirement in 2003. After retiring, she worked part-time at the Hazleton School Employee’s Credit Union for nine years.

She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish and its Altar and Rosary Societies. In addition, she was a member of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society of the parish and was a C.C.D religious instruction teacher.

Theresa loved spending time with her family, laughing and creating and sharing memories with them. Theresa was a kind and giving person who would help anyone and never wanted anything in return. Her family will treasure the memories they have of her, as they still cast a glow. She was someone who brought such light to this world and will remain glowing even after she is gone. Until we meet again…

Surviving are her son, Jarrad Yanonis who gave her purpose in life and who she loved endlessly and his fiancée, Barbara Miller; her grandson, Brandon Moore; two brothers, Thomas Zosh Jr., and Mark Zosh and his wife Tammy; her sister and best friend, Debbie Moser and her husband Ron; many nieces and nephews; her great friend and co-worker of forty years and casino buddy, Ruth Kulick; “The Golden Girls” with whom she loved traveling to different places; and her family’s cat, “Bella”.

Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were her beloved husband, Edward Dersavage and her family’s cat, precious “Chubby”.
